Installed April 2010

Madeline Wiener installed “Storyteller”, free-standing stone figurative sculpture that doubles as seating on a circular concrete plaza in front of the large curved windows of the new Norview Community Center.  Made from Adair dolomitic limestone, quarried in Ontario, Storyteller depicts a gathering of three figures—an older man, a young woman and a boy—as a story is being told. Sculpted benches tempt the onlooker to join in the experience “I wanted the sculpture to reflect the close bond of the citizens of Norview, among family members and total strangers. I have captured three generations of people, because I believe that everyone has their own stories to tell—and I am hopeful that Storyteller will inspire them to do just that,” says Wiener, a full-time artist and founder and director of the Marble Institute of Colorado, a nonprofit educational organization for stone carvers.
