Create public art this summer!

2 Recreation Activities Instructors will work as artists with the 2018 Norfolk Emerging Leader summer program. Work involves teaching practical art skills and positive work habits to emerging apprentice artists.

•Instructs and leads student artists participating in the City of Norfolk’s Summer Emerging Leader Program in the creation of public art projects that will enhance and beautify public space.
•Develops, presents, and executes a plan of action to include budget expenditures.
•Leads a team of five students in the design, execution, and completion of painted or tile murals, mixed media, bas relief sculpture, or other large scale artwork(s).

Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four (4) years of high school or equivalency.
Requires some Visual Arts, Public Art, and/or teaching experience.
The preferred candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.
•Possess through knowledge of and experience with durable art materials.
•Possess an interest in working with student artists.
•Possess excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
•Have the ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, lift from the ground to above the shoulder, bend, stoop, sit, push, pull, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.

Work Hours: Half days, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., June 25th – August 10th.
Selected candidates will be required to create and provide a design prior to the official start date in June.
