End of Massive Resistance Public Art Dedication at Flat Iron Park in Norfolk, VA
Free and open to the public.
Join us as we dedicate and celebrate our newest public art installation created by RE:site “End of Massive Resistance”
Artist team RE:site, Shane Albritton and Norman Thomas of Texas, were selected to create this 8’ tall x 83’ long wall with a graded transformation of glass to brick that explores the concept of breaking down the barrier of a school building wall and celebrates segregated education. A historic photographic timeline of events and text includes “Seventeen Ways” a poem that local poet, Tim Seibels collaborated with the Norfolk 17 to write. Sunlight penetrating the bricks will be a symbol of triumph of social justice. Opaque bricks near the end of the wall, gesture towards the ongoing work of creating equitable schools.
