SUMMARY:"Where There Are Nine" A group exhibition coordinated by Rowena Federico Finn
DESCRIPTION:“Where There Are Nine” brings together a dynamic group of women and women-identifying artists responding to the legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg through the powerful visual language of her iconic collars. For Ginsburg\, the collar was far more than an accessory—it was a symbol\, a signal\, and a statement. Each jabot she wore communicated intent: dissent\, agreement\, celebration\, resistance. Artists in this exhibition were invited to create a work of 2D or 3D art that reinterprets these collars as contemporary emblems of agency\, identity\, and the ongoing struggle for equity. \nThe exhibition’s title references Ginsburg’s famous response to the question\, “When will there be enough women on the Supreme Court?” Her answer—“When there are nine”—has become a rallying cry for gender parity and representation. This exhibition expands on that statement\, offering a space where creative voices reflect on the systems that shape women’s lives and the futures they are forging. \nFeatured artists:\nLisa Beckman\nHillarey Breedlove\nMay Britton\nLiana Courts\nClarissa David\nBeth Dryer\nRowena Federico Finn (lead artist)\nJess Goehner\nJennifer Hand\nKim Hardy\nMaggie Kerrigan\nGrace Martin\nKim McCoy\nKimberly McKinnis\nAmber Pierce\nNeleh Poletsky\nKatie Prock\nMyan Sofia\nJama Watts

SUMMARY:Offsite Gallery at TCC VADC opening reception: Victor Perrotti\, Heather Mitcham and Hanna Kirby
DESCRIPTION:Virginia Beach based photographer\, Victor Perrotti is a collector of light. He seeks to find connections between varied juxtaposed elements and attempts to capture those that take the form of oscillating objects yearning for an expansive environment. With an affinity for the natural world\, Victor aims to challenge the viewer to reevaluate their presuppositions and feel what it is like to view things from outside. “I am building a new reality; a reality that is the viewers invitation to introspection.” \nHeather Mitcham is a Virginia Beach based printmaker who finds the process to “nestle snugly into my busy life.” Heather refers to her cyanotypes and paper marblings as “cyano-experiments”. Her process involves a playfulness and unexpectedness that leads to a curiosity driven workflow that produces compelling\, mysterious shapes and patterns that draw the viewer in. As chemical reactions occur and the cyanotype solution is exposed\, moments become frozen within each print. \nHanna Kirby is a Norfolk based collage and cyanotype artist. Drawing from archival photographs\, found imagery\, textiles\, and natural materials\, Hanna reimagines and recontextualizes portraits of women from the past\, whose names are often lost\, and who’s presence endures through our shared experience of womanhood. Hanna finds the cyanotype process and its reliance of sunlight and time\, a metaphor for memory and distance. Images\, once static and fading\, are revived through an act of care that echo’s the artist’s desire to bridge time and reclaim forgotten narratives.
