Reasonably priced DIY crafting is our mission!

Coast DIY Bar·Friday, October 19, 2018·
Coast DIY Bar offers a menu of projects from which you choose during any DIY Workshop. We work very hard to curate projects and methods that keep our pricing between $25 and $60 – far below our franchise-based competitors. How do we do this? We have a menu of base projects from which you can design something amazing with no additional costs; however, if you want something personal or additional (add-ons), we offer that as well. That way, we don’t charge everyone for the same thing – only what you need. Love that Virginia string-art project but don’t want a starfish? No problem! The starfish is an add-on.

Barry Art Museum

In the summer of 2015, Carolyn and Richard Barry approached Old Dominion University President John Broderick and Kate Broderick with an idea. Would the University be interested in a new art museum with the gift of their collection, which includes glass sculpture and American modernist paintings by important artists?
The Suffolk couple had a longstanding relationship with the Brodericks as well as the University. Carolyn Barry taught math there in the 1960s, and Richard Barry’s involvements included serving on the Board of Visitors for eight years in the 1980s, two of those years as Rector. His father, Richard Barry Jr., had been a math professor at Old Dominion for 25 years. In addition, the Barrys had given funds toward the Barry Arts Building, which opened in 2014 on Monarch Way.
To proceed, President Broderick commissioned a feasibility study. Once a site was selected, and the architect chosen, the Barrys agreed to fund the cost of construction and support museum operations. They created the Old Dominion University Museum Foundation to operate the museum.
The University’s expectation is that the Barry Art Museum will have an integral role in the school’s educational, research, entrepreneurial and community outreach missions across disciplines. Museum programming will dovetail not only with the arts and humanities, but also with the curricula of non-arts areas, such as the social and natural sciences, engineering and health professions.
Positioned at the gateway to the University, the Barry Art Museum beckons the campus and the entire community to come inside and see what’s behind its serpentine glass wall. The glass sculpture collection, featuring internationally known makers, enables the University to contribute substantially to the region’s growing reputation as a glass-art center. And on campus, the art museum caps the University’s efforts to create an arts village on the east side of Hampton Boulevard, thus enhancing Norfolk’s efforts to make the city a cultural destination.

The Magical Properties of Creating Art

All Hands Pottery Studio·Friday, August 24, 2018·
Angela Tilley got her start in clay in 2011 after a deployment to Iraq. When she returned to the United States, she vowed to never be that unhappy again, and the way she would solve that was when she said or though the words “I’ve always wanted to try that,” it became a promise not a wish. She saw someone throwing clay at the wheel, and within weeks was enrolled in her first class. That action changed the trajectory of her life. Once she experienced the magic healing that participating in the artistic project can bring, she decided that one day she would create a place where that magic would be open and welcoming to all people, of all ability and experience. This studio is the result of a long journey, and we hope that we can share the magic with as many people as possible.

Kim Keene opened the shop in January 2014, as the Paint Gallery. At that time it was a frame shop, art gallery, and working art studio where painting classes were offered. Bridget Varney attended one of Kim’s paint classes, and soon after, she and Kim started talking about opening a cafe inside the gallery. Bridget had restaurant experience and always dreamed of having her own cafe. Kim was the starving artist so it was a perfect plan.
The Starving Artist Cafe was started with help of many friends including Robyn Thomas of Robyn Thomas Architecture, Greg Starling of R&R Construction and Rick Henn of Rick Henn Consulting.
The cafe serves breakfast and lunch all day. Paint classes/parties are still offered in the evenings. Artwork displayed is by local artists Kathy Jublou, Barrett Pope, Clayton Singleton, Stacy Goode, Debbie Miller and more. The featured artist is always changing.

Mrs. Pinkadot is a home decor store full of painted furniture, repurposed junque, salvaged finds and vintage and shabby chic treasures.
“Is that your real name” is a question often asked of owner Joan Wilkening. Upon relocating in 2013 from Sacramento, California to Norfolk, Virginia Joan wanted to develop a unique shopping destination full of all the funky, eclectic, re-purposed and up-cycled collections that filled the homes of Joan, her friends and her quirky little shop in California. And, she wanted a fun and memorable name that left a smile on your face; thus Mrs. Pinkadot was born.
Joan invited talented DIY’ers, painters, crafters and Vintage collectors to join her as vendors in Mrs. Pinkadot. She also found quality consignments, got busy painting furniture and scoured the countryside for rusty relics, salvage and funky castoffs to fill Mrs. Pinkadot.
Visit Mrs. Pinkadot to find pre-loved traditional, vintage, shabby chic and painted furniture, vintage home decor, jewelry, china, and one of a kind gifts. Because most items are one of kind if you like it- buy it, because it might not be there tomorrow! And, as you’ll notice, everything is fabulously priced.

Quixotic [kwik-sot-ik] Arts is the passion of Dana Cobb. A love and fascination of art of all types prompted Dana to create a place to showcase the work of artists where the art is considered to be a little different. Along with the eclectic art are a variety of curiosities, from vintage medical equipment to replica skulls/skeletons, and real mounted butterflies and a handful of bones. Realizing there also needed to be a place for those unique gifts you can’t find anywhere else, Dana has also included fun socks, jewelry, t-shirts, wind-ups, and anything that needs a weird home. The shop is a destination for those that enjoy things that have a slight oddness to them. There is also a smattering of antiques available. If something catches her eye, it will show up in the shop.

Quixotic means visionary, impractical, or impracticable,
impulsive and often rashly unpredictable, of or befitting Don Quixote. Dana has always found Don Quixote to be intriguing and loves the thought of him tilting at windmills, fighting them believing they were giants. You will see several items related to Don Quixote and windmills in the shop, with the windmill being the shop logo.

Dana strives for the shop to be a welcoming place, where all who enter feel a warmth, regardless of whether the work inside is of their liking or not. The shop is a dream that Dana wishes to share with the world.

We are brothers Dustin and Matthew Wallace, the youngest old guys you’ll ever meet. To say that we are passionately old-fashioned in our approach to printing and design would be an understatement. Craftsmanship, a strong work ethic and attention to detail are in our DNA. (Seriously, we had blood tests.) The early American style of hand-crafted, high-quality products is alive and well here at TPIC. In fact, we still hand print every job we do, with manual screen presses even in this day of automated machinery. For hands-on printing, we’re hands-down the best.

For All Handkind

MacArthur Center, Monticello Avenue, Norfolk, VA, USA
website »

For All Handkind Collective, was founded by artists: Gayle Forman, Kimberly McKinnis & Kelsie McNair. Our mission is to support new and emerging makers and their practice by giving them a platform to sell their handmade goods.
The online gallery was conceived as a marketplace for unique, handcrafted objects and ‘one-offs’. While each individual artist may not have an entire line ready for production together we have created an entire store; carefully curated with jewelry, glassware and home goods.
5% of each artists’ online sales are donated to a charity of their choice. For more information please visit our FAQ page or contact us at forallhandkind@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support and we hope you ‘Find something bazaar!’

As Norfolk’s art center, the d’Art Center proudly serves the greater Hampton Roads area by connecting the community with the visual arts. A non-profit 501c(3), d’Art offers art education, programming, outreach, and events, many of which are free and open to the public. D’Art also houses studios, occupied by professional resident artists working in a variety of media, including painting, glass, ceramics, printmaking, and fiber art. Our resident artists provide free, interactive demonstrations for the public.

Celebrating thirty years in 2016, d’Art was founded in 1986 at the College Place location in downtown Norfolk. Modeled after the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia, part of d’Art’s mission from the onset was to include working artists’ studios. In 2005, the d’Art Center relocated to the historic Selden Arcade, continuing a legacy as a vibrant arts organization. The d’Art Center remained at the Selden Arcade for the next ten years.

After the Selden Arcade suffered damage from an explosion in April 2015, the d’Art Center moved to the New Energy of Norfolk (NEON) Arts District. Currently across from the Chrysler Museum of Art, d’Art@Duke reopened to public in March 2016.

The d’Art Center has always been free and open to the public. Please come by and visit our resident artist studios, enroll in an art class or workshop, sign your child up for our annual Summer Camp for Kids, contact us to schedule a group tour, or join us for one of our many
exhibitions or events!

All-Out Tattoo is a licensed, professional tattoo shop located in the heart of Norfolk, VA. We were established in 2007 by a female artist, and we have continued to succeed in the tattooing world ever since. We are so central to the seven cities of Hampton Roads, that we’re only minutes from Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk and the Peninsula. If you ever need directions feel free to call us at any time and we’ll be happy to direct you to us.
Here at All-Out our main concern is you, the customer. We strive to always be friendly and make all who enter our shop feel comfortable. You are welcome to bring the your family and friends, or come alone and we guarantee it will be a fun experience for everyone! Our loyal customers voted us as the “Best Place to get a Tattoo in Norfolk” in the Virginia Pilot contest since 2012. We like to think that’s because we work so hard to give everyone the best tattooing experience possible, with great resulting art as well. We pride ourselves in providing our military with excellent tattoos, and we are always willing to work with the difficult schedules that can come along with the job. We are so thankful for all that you do, and understand the difficulties that can come along with it, so we do our best to make this experience as easy and relaxing as possible. If you are currently serving in any branch of the military or have served in the past, please drop by and let us help you wear your pride!
We have very talented artists working here, and between them they can certainly cover all of your tattooing needs! Our team is fully equipped to tattoo any style you could ever want, and execute it beautifully. We are also one of the last remaining true street shops, meaning we do take walk-ins every day, as well as take appointments. We no longer do any type of body piercings. To get the most current tattoo photos, information on events, specials or closing, please follow us on Facebook or Instagram. Thanks for reading and we hope to see you soon at All-Out Tattoo!

Kim Keene opened the shop in January, 2014, as the Paint Gallery.

The Jean MacArthur Research Center, an administration, archives, and education building serves as the repository for the MacArthur collection.

The Harbor Gallery, located in Norfolk’s historic Ghent, is a special place. It stands alone from its competition for many reasons. It is a one of a kind gallery, delightfully attractive but unpretentious and user friendly. The cozy gallery becomes even more inviting when a furry cat and dog greet you at the front door. They have Hampton Roads’ largest selection of local and regional artists.
