Transparent layering established through color theory and analysis sets a tone that deconstructs painting techniques and makes the process of applying layers visible. Mensah’s figures are often superimposed with elongated, angular necks referencing Amadeo Modigliani’s style of portraiture capturing unique qualities of the subjects and revealing elements of their personality.
