JAZZ GOT LOOSE October 2026 Featured artist The Gallery at the Attucks
Alex Georghiou Frankart is a Virginia artist, designer, and illustrator whose work is rooted in storytelling. Raised in Virginia Beach, she studied at Old Dominion University in Norfolk before making Richmond her home.
At the heart of her work is a love of stories—whether they’re found in a historic neighborhood, a family home, or a frozen moment in time. Research is an essential part of her creative process, allowing each piece to celebrate not only its subject, but also the history and human connection behind it.
Growing up, artists like Sam Cooke and Louis Armstrong became the soundtrack of Alex’s childhood. Their music still evokes memories of family, long car rides, and simpler moments. As a former dancer, Alex found herself especially drawn to Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, whose legacy in tap made his story a natural part of this collection. These personal connections made the creation of Rhythm and Blues especially meaningful.
When she’s not in the studio, Alex creates digital experiences through thoughtful web strategy and design. Whether working with pixels or paint, she’s driven by the same belief: every story deserves to be told with care.

A pioneer of soul music, Sam Cooke’s unmistakable voice became a symbol of hope, love, and resilience. This portrait honors an artist whose music continues to inspire generations.

Richmond native Bill “Bojangles” Robinson was one of the most influential entertainers of the twentieth century and a pioneer of tap. This portrait honors both his extraordinary artistry and his lasting impact on his hometown, incorporating a subtle reference to the traffic signal he reportedly funded after witnessing children crossing a dangerous intersection.
