“My work explores the intersection of identity, history, and self-reflection/expression through the medium of photography. By capturing intimate portraits and everyday moments, I aim to preserve the vibrancy and resilience of Black culture. The images I have chosen for this exhibition highlight themes of music, heritage, and presence. Each piece is composed to speak across multiple vantage points: for pedestrians, the detailed expressions and textures invite close study; for motorists and cyclists, bold contrasts and recognizable subjects offer immediate visual impact. This balance of intimacy and accessibility ensures that the work resonates with viewers who engage briefly as well as those who linger. My inspiration draws from lived experience and cultural storytelling. The portrait of a woman holding a guitar evokes both vulnerability and strength, suggesting the harmony between body and instrument. The photograph of a man strumming a guitar atop a car connects music to place and time, blending history with personal narrative. Other works, such as the contemplative figure overlooking a vast landscape, provoke a feeling of being lost but found with him. The stark geometry of street signs explores identity within the context of the environment and my hometown community. Through these works, I intend to celebrate Black voices while also encouraging viewers to reflect on their own connections to sound and space. The goal is to create imagery that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable, honoring the past while sparking dialogue for the future.”
