My creation is a tribute to the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose legal advocacy challenged and dismantled frameworks of traditional gender roles, particularly the “breadwinner–homemaker” model that positioned men as providers and women as caregivers. This piece reflects how those expectations have evolved over time.
The collar is mainly constructed from repurposed Kwik Lok bread clips— small, everyday objects that are usually thrown away. By turning them into something decorative and intentional, I’m highlighting the value in things that often go unnoticed. In addition to the choice of the main material being used, the colors play an important role in the design. I used gold to symbolize ideas of success and recognition, and red to suggest strength, creativity, and resilience. This piece expresses the balance between power and change, visibility and worth.
