WATCH A VIDEO OF THE OCTOBER 17th EVENT “Polyphonic Story Slam” at the historic Attucks Theatre, a culmination of the meet-ups funded via the NEA grant we received where grantees were invited to share stories and their motivation behind all they do to support Arts and Culture in Hampton Roads!
“Polyphonic Culture” with Norfolk, VA local, Patrick Mullins in the lead as Creative Facilitator was a series of 5 meet-ups at the historic Attucks Theatre in Norfolk, VA that culminated in a “Polyphonic Story Slam”. During the workshops, grantees and other invited cultural organizations shared their mission and passion for arts and culture and more. Their time together attributed to planning of several collaborative performances and the programming of FREE events at the Attucks Theatre. These free events are being funded via a special Arts Equity grant established by Norfolk Arts in an effort to make funding for arts and culture more equitable.
Norfolk Arts and our grantees, embrace the goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion, knowing that the arts can be the perfect catalyst for understanding and celebrating cultural differences.
“The National Endowment for the Arts is pleased to support a wide range of projects, demonstrating the many ways the arts enrich our lives and contribute to healthy and thriving communities,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “These organizations play an important role in advancing the creative vitality of our nation and helping to ensure that all people can benefit from arts, culture, and design.”
Norfolk Arts is a proud recipient of a $20,000 National Endowment for the Arts Grant that has supported this series of interactive seminars for the arts and culture sector.
