Completed by lead artist Clayton Singleton of Clayton Singleton Fine Art, and Teens With a Purpose summer camp participants, “Garden of Dreams” consists of 3 double sided aluminum murals. One is located on the Teens With a Purpose building on Olney Road. The other two are installed in the median across the street to serve as wayfinding to signal passerbys that nearby is a safe place to gather where creativity flows and all are welcome. Clayton states “My blend of verbal and visual language examines education, courage, perseverance, and beauty.”
Clayton hopes viewers will reflect the inherent strength within each of us and be inspired to develop self-abilities. The Norfolk Arts and Teens With a Purpose partnership created a platform that empowered young people to use their voice, creativity, reflection and actions to affect personal growth, transform lives and impact communities”. This Teens With a Purpose mission statement falls in line with what Norfolk Arts has sought to do since its inception in 2006.
