Tim was an exhibiting artist during our Selden Handmade Fair in 2013:
“When your day job is figuring out how to strip down and rebuild old ships, what do you do to relax? You strip down and rebuild other old stuff, of course. At least that’s the way it is for artist, maker and engineer Tim Dooley. In fact, when it comes to Tim and his business – ‘The Retro Den’ – you could say his work is all mixed up. Perhaps like the wonderful old repurposed cocktail shaker he saved from obscurity by turning it into an awesome lamp. Maybe it’s the old silverware he bent into sculpture. So it could be the odd items he made into an amazing wind chime. Or who knows what, reinvented and repurposed into furniture.
Actually, Tim’s focused squarely on his career as an engineer. But you can’t blame a person for dreaming about what could be. In fact, he and his daughter – who he’s described as his ‘muse and business partner’ – have their sights on bigger things for their business when he retires. Or maybe he’ll just wind up owning a bed and breakfast. And if he does, we can only image the repurposed decor that will fill it.”
