Kayla Barnes is an African American mixed media artist and graphic designer based in Norfolk, Virginia, currently pursuing an MFA in Visual Studies at Norfolk State University. Their work explores death and funerary rituals in the African Diaspora, examining how funerary traditions serve as acts of resistance amid systemic oppression, using digital programs and drawing. Their work has been exhibtied the Chrysler Museum of Art in Infinite Editions: Printmaking for Connection and Exchange.
