Call for artists! Enter the Virginia Beach ViBe Creative District’s artist database to be considered for the 8th ViBe Mural Festival this Oct 3-12, 2025.
Why an artist database? Since 2018, the ViBe Creative District has been hosting an annual mural festival where 10 artists paint 10 murals on 10 different walls in 10 days. The rolling year-to-year artists database allows property owners to consider multiple wall placements and styles of art by viewing the best previous projects from each artist in the database. If each artist only submitted one mural concept, they might be looked over because the artwork doesn’t line up with the current wall available or doesn’t quite fit the owner’s aesthetic. Having up to 4 images of past work per artist allows property owners to see samples of the artist’s portfolio and offers a clear understanding of what might be possible at their location. Then, the best part, each artist works collaboratively with the business owners to decide which wall, what style of art and how the artwork can be unique to its specific location. This method works best here in the ViBe Creative District! As a bonus, artists who enter our database are informed of all future paid opportunities to participate in projects outside of the mural festival.

ADOLPH & ESTHER GOTTLIEB EMERGENCY GRANT
For painters, printmakers, and sculptors who have been creating mature art for at least 10 years, and have recently undergone an unforeseen catastrophic event such as a fire, flood, or medical emergency. There are no deadlines for this program.
To be eligible for this program, an artist must be able to demonstrate a minimum involvement of ten years in a mature phase of his or her work. Artists must work in the disciplines of painting, sculpture or printmaking. Each application will be reviewed by the directors, who will exercise their discretion in considering it, and will determine the amount of each award. Applicants should note there is a set amount appropriated for these grants each fiscal year; once this budgetary limit has been reached, the Foundation will not be able to judge any additional requests on their merits.
Second-party requests are honored only when the applicant is physically unable to communicate with the Foundation. Review procedures for completed applications begin as soon as they are received. Full review generally takes about four weeks from the time an application is complete. Situations with imminent deadlines will receive priority.

Greece Residency – rolling deadline
The Lakkos Artist Residency is a base for creatives to explore an authentic Greece city and a wonderful Greek island. The residency has just relocated to a new location that like the previous one needs a bit of an art injection. It’s a small area in Heraklion’s Old Town that time has not touched.
There are a couple of city beaches within walking distance. There is no obligation to put on a presentation at the end of an artist’s stay but if desired we often have one-night-only shows.
Duration of residency: Minimum two weeks
Open to artists internationally
All creative people are welcome to apply for a stay at the residency. The residency can accommodate a maximum of 2 artists (partners possible on request) at one time. The amount of time stayed is flexible but should be no shorter than two weeks. In winter two small dogs and a cat sometimes stay in the downstairs apartment. If you have an allergy please mention it in your application.
If you wish to apply for a stay at the Lakkos Artists Residency please email mathewhalpin@hotmail.com. In your email please explain;
