Norfolk Arts grantee, Spotlight News is offering (3) $500 scholarships to students seeking their 1st year of higher education (includes trade school)! Open to all local students & GED recipients.

The mission of Spotlight News is to create, enhance, and support local independent media through arts and community-focused journalism in the Hampton Roads area.

Students will have until March 18, 2022 to interview a professional in their intended field of study, and write a 750-1,000 word essay, including a quote from said professional, and provide 1-2 original photos or pieces of original artwork supporting their essay. The essay will relate something about the Hampton Roads area to the subject or trade they plan to study.

Winners and select honorable mentions will be published in Spotlight News starting in April and will be honored at a luncheon in May.

They hope that by including trade school students, students with GEDs, and by eliminating a GPA requirement, they will be able to serve students who are not eligible for as many traditional scholarship opportunities.
