Together with the community, Norfolk Arts & the Ohio Creek Public Art Project Committee recently selected Austin, TX based artist, Christine Rojek who specializes in interactive, public sculpture to create public art along the Ohio Creek.
Christine’s site-responsive installations have become destination pieces in over 20 locations throughout the United States.
Rojek states, βI enjoy the challenge of design in response to the natural surroundings, existing architecture, and the history of the community. Iβm committed to artwork that engages, informs and uplifts the public. My most recent work explores manβs dialogue with nature through sundials, solar collectors, and kinetic sculptures that are activated by the wind. I look forward to the opportunity to create a unique sculpture for the Ohio Creek Watershed.β
Norfolk Arts and the Elizabeth River Project received a $75,000 National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant to complete the project. A portion of the grant will support a new river education curriculum for the Learning Barge and RiverFest.
Take a look at one of Rojek’s kinetic sculpture installations at the Evanston Art Center in Chicago.
