The City of Norfolk, Virginia is a proud recipient of a $20,000 grant that has supported a series of interactive seminars for the arts and culture sector. “Polyphonic Culture” with Norfolk, VA local, Patrick Mullins in the lead as Creative Facilitator, brought City of Norfolk grantees and other cultural organizations together in a series of five interactive seminars in 2024 to connect, break bread, and program collaboratively.

We have learned the unique desires of each organization and discovered a variety of ways to support one another. We look forward to ongoing relationships that will enhance goals and initiatives and reach our local community through unique arts and culture offerings and events.

Our time together has resulted in 8 FREE and open to the public performances being planned at the Historic Attucks Theatre in Downtown Norfolk. Our 1st event is scheduled for May 19, 5pm with Studio 360 Performing Arts and The Boys Choir of Hampton Roads joining together to perform.

Norfolk Arts and cultural organizations embrace the goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion, knowing that the arts can be the perfect catalyst for understanding and celebrating cultural differences. Polyphonic Culture is the simultaneous combination of voices using the arts to create genuine inclusion.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is pleased to support a wide range of projects, demonstrating the many ways the arts enrich our lives and contribute to healthy and thriving communities,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “These organizations play an important role in advancing the creative vitality of our nation and helping to ensure that all people can benefit from arts, culture, and design.”
