Applications are open for our next exhibition at The Gallery at the Attucks located inside the historic Attucks Theatre in downtown Norfolk, VA! Delegate Jackie Hope Glass will be jurying the exhibition and selecting up to 50 original works of art created by artists 18+ with a connection to Hampton Roads.

Jazz Got Loose at the Attucks celebrates a musical tradition born in New Orleans’ Black communities—an art form that grew from blues, ragtime, and African rhythms into a bold, boundary breaking force that shaped American culture. Jazz fueled social change, challenged segregation, and carried the voices of artists like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Nina Simone as they redefined freedom and identity.

If your 2-D work (not exceeding 50lbs.) embodies the spirit of jazz—improvisational, textured, vibrant, abstract, expressive, open to interpretation, rhythmically unexpected, colorful, fluid, layered, organic, kinetic, resonant, nuanced, bold, unapologetic, mood setting, immersive—we invite you to apply by August 2, 2026.
