Norfolk Arts hopes to bring innovation and experimentation to the Offsite Gallery located on the 2nd floor of MacArthur Center. We encourage artists to take visitors to a new level of participation and engagement with a contemporary approach. Exhibitions rotate every 6-8 weeks.

Call for exhibition proposals:

Open to all artists 18 years or older, working in any visual media, residing in the Hampton Roads region to include Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Virginia Beach, Newport News, Suffolk, Franklin, Poquoson, Williamsburg and the counties of Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City, Mathews, Southampton, Surry, and York.

Proposals can be for solo, two-person, or group exhibitions. Special consideration will be given to proposals that include a community engagement component to be facilitated during the exhibition or opening reception such as a hands-on workshop, artist talk, etc. Offsite Gallery will consider the diversity of beliefs and values of the citizens of the City of Norfolk, VA.

Delivery: Artists are responsible for the delivery of artwork. Offsite Gallery will not be responsible for any shipping costs.

Installation: All artwork must be gallery ready with hanging wire attached. No sawtooth hangers. Offsite Gallery will hang artwork (unless unusual requirements are necessary). Artwork may not be drilled into the ceiling or floor. Any unusual expenses deemed necessary by the gallery for installation or removal will be the artist’s responsibility. Please explain any special installation requirements in your proposal. Approximately 8 pedestals ranging in size without bonnets are available. A display window leading into MacArthur Center from the gallery is available for a separate installation or to place a screen to loop a video.

Opening Reception: Offsite Gallery will host an opening reception, create, and print 50 invitations for your use, prepare artwork labels, and advertise on social media. Offsite Gallery does not take any commission. Sales are between the artist and buyer.

August 18 – October 6
October 13 – November 24
December 1 – January 12, 2024

Submission requirements:
DEADLINE: August 15, 2022
No fee to apply.
Submit 5-10 JPEG or PNG images, and a written proposal for committee review on CaFÉ. Note, you will be asked to create a Free account.

Proposals must include:
1) Artist statement and CV or resume
2) Information about the subject of the work and intent of your exhibition
3) 5-10 JPEG or PNG images that accurately represent a cohesiveness of work to be exhibited
4) An image list that includes title, medium, dimension and year work was completed
5) Idea for a community engagement component to your exhibition
6) Name, address, phone, email and dates preferred from Exhibition Schedule Draft above.
